Fall Events

Leaves brighten before they fall. A cool breeze blows across Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley. In autumn, we welcome the change of season and the beauty it brings, and give thanks for the local harvest and the flavors of the season

Brandywine Festival of the ArtsBRANDYWINE FESTIVAL OF ARTS (September)

More than 250 artists from around the country travel to Brandywine Park in Wilmington, Delaware every year on the first weekend after Labor Day for this juried art exhibition, an early fall tradition for almost 20,000 attendees. Booths feature fine art, jewelry, leather crafting, furniture design, woodworking, metal work, sculpture, pottery, photography, and other wearable and decorative art alongside a local food court, music performances and children's activities.

THE MUSHROOM FESTIVAL (September)

On the streets of "The Mushroom Capital of the World," vendors and restaurants set up shop to pay homage to Kennett Square's famous fungi. You'll find mushroom tacos, mushroom risottos, mushroom soups and mushroom ice cream. Stay for the National Fried Mushroom Eating Competition (the record stands at nine pounds of Buona Fried Mushrooms in eight minutes), enter the Cute-As-A-Button (Mushroom) baby photo contest, and meet celebrity chefs inside the Culinary Tent.

Delaware Saengerbund Oktoberfest (September)

From the opening oompahs of the Friday night parade until the last bratwurst is gone, the Delaware Saengerbund Oktoberfest, hosted in Newark, is a three-day celebration of German food and culture ... and, of course, beer. The men wear lederhosen. The women wear dirndls. It's not unusual to see a United States Senator or two speaking before the tapping of the first keg (and having a sip immediately after). Prost!
