Summer in Greater Wilmington is always a season full of adventure and exploration. This year, summer in Wilmington  brings gorgeous views and amazing events!  

1. BIKE & HIKE & BREWS PRESENTED BY DOGFISH HEAD CRAFT BREWERY 

Hagley Museum and Library 

Wednesdays through August 25, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Stroll, jog or bike through Hagley’s spectacular grounds along the Brandywine Creek and enjoy award-winning Dogfish Head beer and Woodside Farm Creamery Ice Cream. On two special “Dog Days,” July 28 and August 25, you can bring your leashed pup along for the fun! Pack your own picnic or take advantage of the numerous interchanging food trucks parked at the top of Worker’s Hill. The event is weather dependent. Click below for more details. 

2. SUMMER CONCERT SERIES 

Rockford Park and Sugar Bowl Pavillion  

Mondays and Wednesdays through August 18, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. 

Bring your family and friends (including the four-legged variety), picnic blankets and lawn chairs, and enjoy the sounds of summer at these free concerts. Click here for more info. 

3. MOVIES IN THE SCULPTURE GARDEN 

Delaware Art Museum  

Fridays through September 10 

Movie start times vary.  

This movie series presented by DelArt Cinema kicked off July 2. With movies like Rocky and The Greatest Showman coming soon, your summer evenings just got better. Concessions are available for purchase on site. Click below for more information on upcoming shows. 

 

4. HISTORIC ODESSA BREWFEST 

Historic Houses of Odessa  

September 11, 2021 

The 8th annual Historic Odessa Brewfest comes to Odessa, Delaware this September. It's an opportunity to sample some of the very best regional and national craft beers, as well as locally produced wines and spirits. Attendees enjoy great food, hand-crafted merchandise, live music, and unlimited samplings of beer amid the historic homes and buildings in this charming 18th-century village. 

 

5. ROCK CLIMBING & RAPPELLING  

Alapocas Run State Park

Discover a new activity in outdoor rope climbing in Greater Wilmington. Get harnessed up and climb on the park’s natural rock wall after a brief introduction to equipment, climbing and safety. The perfect summer adventure for mind and body.  The rock-climbing wall is closed to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday June 21st through July 30th while summer camp is in session. It is otherwise available for climbing during the park's normal operating hours. 

6. MONTHLY FULL MOON HIKES 

Bellevue State Park 

Full moon nights throughout the year

Take an hour-long hike through the park and enjoy the nocturnal life at Bellevue. Starting locations vary, so be sure to confirm the meeting spot. Visit the front office to register or call (302) 761-6963. 

7. GUIDED HIKES 

White Clay Creek State Park 

Specialty hikes include a harmony hike, a silent hike just before sunset and a full moon hike. Panning for Creek Gems looks at local geology through the garnets, magnetite, and other shiny treasures. 

8. Kennett Square Mushroom Festival 

600 S Broad Street  (New Location for 2021) 
September 11-12, 2021 

Right outside of Greater Wilmington and into the Brandywine Valley comes The Annual Mushroom Festival is a celebration of Kennett Square’s #1 Crop—the mushroom. The Street Fair extends about one mile thru town and boasts almost 250 craft and food vendors. Learn more from the link below.
