Delaware’s craft brewing heritage takes center stage this spring as beer lovers, history buffs, and community supporters gather for Delaware’s King Gambrinus Day on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The celebration takes place from 6–8 p.m. in the Alamo Room at Wilmington Brew Works and offers a unique opportunity to explore the stories, traditions, and community behind the First State’s thriving craft beer scene.

Hosted in partnership with the Delaware Historical Society, the Friends of Delaware’s Gambrinus Statue, and Wilmington Brew Works, this lively event honors the legendary King Gambrinus, often called the “King of Beer.” The evening celebrates both the folklore surrounding the historic figure and the modern brewers who continue the tradition today.

At 6:30 p.m., attendees will participate in a special statewide toast broadcast via Facebook Live. Breweries and beer lovers across Delaware are encouraged to join, raising a glass together in honor of the craft brewers who have helped shape Delaware’s beer culture.

Beer, History, and Community

The event includes two 9-ounce pours of locally crafted beer, light fare, and a commemorative tasting glass for guests to take home. Throughout the evening, attendees will also enjoy two engaging presentations exploring the legend and legacy of Gambrinus:

Manufacturing the Gambrinus Myth – An entertaining dive into the folklore behind the famous beer king.

Restoring Delaware’s Beer King – An inside look at the ongoing effort to restore Delaware’s historic Gambrinus statue and return it to public display.

Proceeds from the event support Restore the King, an initiative dedicated to restoring Delaware’s historic Gambrinus statue. Once completed, the project aims to bring this iconic symbol of Delaware’s brewing heritage back to the public for future generations to enjoy.

Tickets are $15 per person, and attendance is limited to 75 guests, so early registration is encouraged. The event is open to guests 21 and older.
