Beautiful Art on Display…
The Delaware Art Museum is best known for its large collection of British Pre-Raphaelite art, illustrations by Wilmington native Howard Pyle, and urban landscapes by John Sloan and his circle. The historic museum continues to bring art to the community with family and youth programs, adult programs and its series of performances.
The Delaware Contemporary is a dynamic attraction where art, design and technology intersect, inspiring creativity in daily lives. The Contemporary is a non-collecting museum, allowing for a great variety of exhibitions from local, national and international artists. Arts education initiatives, school partnerships, youth summer camps, and classes for artists and non-artists alike also play a huge part in connecting art to the local community.
The Brandywine River Museum of Art, best known for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, features galleries dedicated to the work of N.C., Andrew and Jamie. The museum’s outstanding collection of American art is housed in a 19th-century mill with a dramatic steel and glass addition overlooking the banks of the Brandywine River.
Show-stopping Performances…
The great tradition of dinner theater finds a contemporary home inside the big red playhouse of Ardentown, Delaware. The Candlelight Theatre produces five mainstage musicals every year, from classics that have entertained audiences for decades to new shows that only recently exited the Great White Way. Dinner comes with the price of the ticket, cast and crew take on double duty as the wait staff, and there's a full-service cash bar at every performance.
Bootless Stageworks, an award-winning professional adult contemporary theater, provides high-quality theatrical performances. Governed and managed entirely by devoted volunteers, Bootless is a unique, small professional (non-equity) theater company employing emerging theater artists and designers from throughout the Delaware Valley.
For more than 140 years, The Grand Opera House has been entertaining and engaging audiences throughout Wilmington, Delaware, and the greater Brandywine Valley with live entertainment, exceptional performances and educational outreach. In 2015, The Opera House assumed operation of The Playhouse on Rodney Square (formerly the DuPont Theatre), adding Broadway to the roster. With more than 120 performances a year, there is a show to please every taste.
