On Saturday, November 21, 2026, the Historic Odessa Foundation welcomes families and friends for its second annual Twinklefest, a festive afternoon filled with holiday traditions, seasonal entertainment, Christmas shopping and activities for all ages. From visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus to horse-drawn-era charm, historic house tours and the lighting of Odessa's beautifully preserved buildings at dusk, this one-day celebration is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season in Greater Wilmington & the Brandywine Valley. And the best part? One ticket includes nearly all the festive fun!
From 1 to 5:30 p.m., Historic Odessa's charming museum houses and grounds will transform into a holiday wonderland. Explore the Christmas Marketplace featuring more than 45 vendors, offering gifts, handcrafted treasures and seasonal finds perfect for checking a few names off your holiday shopping list. Throughout the afternoon, enjoy holiday music from DJ Dana McDonald, a special performance by the Odessa High School Marching Band and traditional dancing with the Dover English Country Dancers.
Families can look forward to plenty of festive activities, including:
- Visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus
- Hay wagon rides and pony rides
- A petting zoo and face painting
- Children's holiday crafts and a Christmas shopping activity
- Letter writing to Santa using feather pens and India ink
- Photo opportunities in an antique sleigh
- Wreath-making demonstrations
- Costumed holiday characters
- Antique cars and a historic fire truck display
Little ones can even send their holiday wishes through Santa's special post office, where every child who submits a letter will receive a response from the North Pole! As the afternoon draws to a close, gather for one of Twinklefest's most magical moments: the lighting of Historic Odessa's buildings at dusk. Twinklefest isn't just about celebrating the holidays today. It's also an opportunity to discover how Christmas traditions have changed throughout American history.
This year's event includes admission to the Historic Odessa Foundation's 40th anniversary Holiday House Tours and Exhibitions, featuring beautifully decorated historic homes and seasonal displays.
Inside the National Historic Landmark Corbit-Sharp House (c. 1774), visitors can explore An American Colonial Revival Christmas, an exhibition inspired by Valerie Tripp's stories about Felicity, the American Girl character whose adventures take place in 1774. Through period rooms, historic furnishings and doll-sized objects on loan from the Changnon Family Museum of Toys and Collectibles, the exhibition explores Christmas customs in colonial America and the decorating traditions that emerged generations later. Visitors will discover how the familiar Colonial Revival holiday decorations associated with Williamsburg developed in the early 20th century and how they differ from decorations used during the 1700s.
The exhibition is on view from November 10 through December 31, 2026.
The holiday magic continues inside the Wilson-Warner House (c. 1769) with the return of the Storybook Trees exhibition. This charming display features trees decorated by members of the community, each inspired by children's literature. It's a festive celebration of storytelling, creativity, and the holiday traditions that bring generations together, making it a particularly fun stop for families with young children.
With entertainment, historic house tours, rides and children's activities included in admission, Twinklefest makes it easy to plan an afternoon of festive family fun.
