Discover Delaware’s Revolutionary Story 

Throughout the summer and into the fall, the Delaware Historical Society is hosting a lineup of events that highlight the state’s pivotal role in the founding of the United States. History comes alive through conversations, hands-on experiences, and storytelling that connects the past and the present, making it easy for visitors of all ages to engage with the legacy of 1776. 

Featured Event: Raise a Glass at Revolutionary Spirits   

One of the season’s standout experiences is Revolutionary Spirits, taking place on June 26 at the Delaware History Museum.   

This 21+ event explores what 18th-century Patriots drank during the Revolutionary era, complete with beverage tastings and light bites. It’s a fun, immersive way to experience history through flavor, offering a fresh perspective on daily life during the founding of the nation.

June 17 — Not Today, PA (Zoom) 

Explore Delaware’s decision to separate from Pennsylvania in this engaging virtual presentation with the Delaware Public Archives. 

June 23 — From the Vault: Revolutionary Singalong 

Get an up-close look at an 18th-century songbook and experience music from the Revolutionary era.

July 3 — Declaration of Independence Reading 

Celebrate Independence Day with a live reading on the steps of Old Town Hall in Historic New Castle. 

July 15 — Independence or the Bayonet (Zoom)  

Learn about Delaware’s Founding Fathers and their role in the fight for independence. 

September 12 — In Common Cause: Delaware’s Homefront in the Revolutionary War 

Discover how everyday citizens supported the Revolutionary effort. 

Walk Through History in New Castle 

For those looking to experience history on the ground, the These Houses Were Homes Walking Tours offer a powerful look at the lives and contributions of Black families in Historic New Castle. Recently reimagined for 2026, the tour focuses on the years 1776–1876, exploring how generations helped shape the new nation. Beginning at the Read House and Gardens, the experience weaves together architecture, culture, and untold stories that deepen the understanding of Delaware’s past.
