When you think of visiting Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley, the first thing that may come to mind is “What is there to do?”

Well, we have the answer for you!

There’s so much coming down the pike this month. From a PGA Tournament and a peach festival to a Burger Battle and Forest Bathing adventures, the dog days of summer are upon us... so why not enjoy them with a getaway to #VisitWilm?

Here’s what's in store when you visit Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley this August!

First Fridays at Coverdale Farm – August 5th

Coverdale Farms, part of the Delaware Nature Society, gives you an opportunity to relax and check out the scenery of the farm. How, you may ask?... by winding down while you shop for fresh-off-the-farm goods at Coverdale’s farm market, of course! Sip, snack and savor the beauty of the landscape with food, beer, wine and soda available for purchase. Bring your own picnic blanket and chairs to make it an afternoon to remember.

Steamin’ Day at Auburn Heights – August 7th

Ever heard of the Marshall Steam Museum at Auburn Heights? Well, if you haven’t been, be sure to check out their monthly Steamin’ Day event (The best way to experience the museum and the property it resides on!). Climb into antique automobiles, take a tour of the property’s 1897 mansion , grab some steamed popcorn and, of course, take a tour of the Marshall Steam Museum to check out the amazing collection of vintage autos.

BMW Championship - August 16th to August 21st

Soon enough, the grounds of the Wilmington Country Club will be full of visitors and professional golfers! The BMW Championship is coming to #VisitWilm. Join 70 of the top professional golfers in the world as they play through.

Old Tyme Peach Festival - August 20th

Middletown, Delaware’s Annual Peach Festival is coming this August – rain or shine. Bring your appetite, and taste your way through children’s activities, music, games and of course, all the peaches you can handle. Peach lover? We dare you to enter the Peach Pie Contest!

August Quarterly – August 21st to August 28th

The August Quarterly is the oldest African American religious festival in the nation. This weeklong celebration of religious freedom, freedom of speech, and the right to assembly culminates on Sunday, August 28th with a Sunday Service at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in the morning and the August Quarterly Festival in Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park on Sunday afternoon. Come one, come all to experience something magical.

Last Month for Indigenous Faces of Wilmington at DE Art Museum

Throughout the month of August, we hope you stop into the Delaware Art Museum to see the Indigenous Faces exhibition. Only on display until early September, this collection opens a dialogue to re-introduce, re-discover, and re-educate individuals about the vibrant and intersecting cultures of indigenous people in Wilmington.

And be sure not to miss stopping into the Art Museum on August 13th to check out the Jet Phynx Dirty Popcorn Black Film Festival! More information here.

Well, would you look at that... a whole month’s worth of events listed here, and there’s still plenty more on our events calendar to explore! Seems to us that this little ol’ city has enough to fill an entire weekend (or more!) And that’s just in the month of August.
