This holiday season, the Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford is pulling out all the stops to create a magical experience for visitors of all ages. From November 16, 2024, through January 5, 2025, the museum will host two enchanting exhibitions and a variety of festive events, making it the perfect destination to kick off the holiday celebrations.

50+ Years of Tradition

A perennial favorite, the Brandywine Railroad holiday train display returns, continuing a tradition that began in 1972. This iconic O-gauge model train display captivates with over 2,000 feet of track and more than 1,000 miniature pieces. Visitors can marvel at locomotives, trolleys, and passenger and freight trains winding through a delightful village, complete with a farm, factories, a carnival, and even a drive-in movie theater. Trains from beloved brands such as Lionel, Williams, and Atlas add to the charm, while interactive elements allow visitors to engage with the display in a hands-on way.

New this year, the museum will also feature The Wonderful World of Wyeth Miniatures, an exhibition showcasing the whimsical, miniature creations of the Wyeth family. This collection includes two exquisite model train displays, originally owned by Nicholas and Jamie Wyeth, sons of renowned artist Andrew Wyeth. Nicholas’s vintage Lionel trains from the 1920s and 30s glide through a landscape featuring a grand bridge modeled after New York’s Hellgate Bridge, while Jamie Wyeth’s N-gauge train, co-owned with Andy Warhol, features personalized details from both artists. Miniature lovers will also enjoy a glimpse into Ann Wyeth McCoy’s remarkable dollhouse, outfitted with handcrafted furnishings and tiny paintings by family members.

In addition to these awe-inspiring displays, visitors will find the museum’s atrium adorned with towering Christmas trees decorated with Brandywine’s signature handmade “Critter” ornaments. Made from natural materials like pinecones, seed pods, and acorns, these distinctive ornaments have become a beloved tradition at Brandywine, and this year’s Holiday Critter Sale will take place from November 21–24, with a member preview on November 20. Thousands of unique ornaments will be available, including a new series inspired by Philadelphia’s sports teams, with all proceeds supporting the museum’s educational programs.

Special Holiday Events & Activities

For those seeking more than just visual treats, the museum is hosting a variety of holiday events. Families can enjoy Sensory-Friendly Access Hours for the train display, Breakfast with the Trains, and even a cozy Polar Express Read-Aloud Pajama Night. The Children’s Holiday Party, featuring Santa and live entertainment, is sure to delight little ones, while music lovers can experience a festive performance by the Lancaster Chamber Singers on December 15.
