The Marshall Steam Museum, located in Auburn Valley State Park, just minutes from the center of Hockessin, Delaware, is best known for housing the world’s largest operating collection of Stanley steam cars. In addition to the incredible car collection, the museum treasures its steam powered 1/8 scale fully ridable train that circles the famed Auburn Heights Mansion (complete with its own railroad crossing!)   

This year, the Marshall Steam Museum celebrates its 20th anniversary! All year they will revisit special moments from the past and make new memories with incredible events, online archived content, temporary exhibitions, themed merchandise, and more. 2024 is also the year their founder, Tom Marshall, would have turned 100 years old – so there is a lot to celebrate at the Steam Museum this year.

The Annual Auburn Heights Egg Hunt 

Friday, March 29 & Saturday, March 30, 12–3 p.m.  

The spring season brings an egg-cellent hunt to the yard of the Auburn Heights Mansion. Ride the rails, enjoy some lunch with food trucks on site, and take your picture with the Easter Bunny! Don’t forget your Easter basket!  

This event sells out quickly so advance registration and payment are required.  

Train Day 

Sunday, May 5, 12:30–4:30 p.m.  

Enjoy a day out on the grounds of the Mansion and explore all things trains! Take rides aboard the Auburn Valley Railroad, participate in train-centered activities for kids (of all ages), and see special railroad displays including a hands-on telegraph activity, a vintage railroad china exhibit, and a railroad tools display. It’s the perfect day for train enthusiasts of all ages. 

Steamin’ Days 

First Sundays June–November, 12:30–4:30 p.m.  

The best way to experience the Museum and Mansion is to attend a monthly Steamin’ Day! Climb into an antique automobile, board one of the trains, and experience what it was like to travel at the turn of the 20th century. There's something for everyone, age 2 to 92!

Classic Car Show & Garden Party  

Sunday, September 21, 12:30–4:30 pm  

The annual Auburn Heights Invitational features exceptional motor cars from the dawn of the automotive age through 1969. The event benefits the Joseph Boxler Education Fund, which supports educational programming by the Marshall Steam Museum, and is held rain or shine. What will this year's theme be? You'll have to wait to find out, but rest assured the Museum has great plans already in the works! Keep an eye on their website for specific details! In addition to learning more about historic automobiles, enjoy delicious food from On the Roll Food Truck, wine from Total Wine & More, craft beer from Dew Point Brewing Co., ice cream from Woodside Farm Creamery, rides on the Auburn Valley Railroad, and tours of the Auburn Heights Mansion. Plus, enjoy special exhibits and presentations, a silent auction, and more!
