The Delaware Art Museum is adding a new dimension to its cultural offerings with the launch of DelArt Cinema, a weekly film screening program starting January 2025. This exciting initiative invites the community to explore the art of film while connecting with fellow movie enthusiasts.
Screenings will take place every Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Museum’s 160-seat auditorium, with the last Saturday of each month designated as a free member screening. Families can enjoy special Second Sunday screenings at 1:30 p.m. designed for younger audiences. Complementing the cinematic experience, visitors can indulge in snacks from Kaffeina Cafe or sip on beer and wine available for purchase at the bar outside the auditorium.

Diverse Films for a Diverse Community
“Just as film itself is diverse, so is the community,” said Tom Cavanaugh, DelArt Cinema’s Film Curator. The program’s curated series aims to offer something for every film lover, from classic Hollywood hits to groundbreaking international works. The inaugural program ties into the Museum’s Jazz Age Illustration exhibition, featuring screenings of Singin’ in the Rain, The Roaring Twenties, Some Like it Hot, and The Rules of the Game (La règle du jeu). Families can enjoy January’s kids’ screening of The Iron Giant. February will bring the Love in the 90s series in celebration of Black History Month, showcasing impactful films like Crooklyn, House Party, Love Jones, and Love & Basketball, alongside the kids’ screening of the beloved comedy Good Burger.
More Than Just Movies
DelArt Cinema is more than a place to watch films—it's a hub for discussion, discovery, and inspiration. Programs will highlight directors’ filmographies, explore genres, and delve into key moments in cinematic history. As Tom Cavanaugh explained, “Hopefully, we can introduce people to filmmakers they weren’t familiar with and inspire a deeper love of movies. Who knows? Maybe a film inspires them to create one themselves.”
A Community Initiative
Supported by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, DelArt Cinema underscores the Museum’s mission to engage the community through art and culture.
