On May 17, 2025, the cobblestone streets of Historic New Castle, Delaware, will once again come alive with the sounds, sights, and spirit of centuries past—only this year, they’re celebrating something truly special. A Day in Old New Castle is marking its 100th anniversary, and you’re invited to step back in time and be part of history.
How many events can say they’ve stood the test of time for 100 years?
This beloved tradition, which began in 1925, is the oldest home and garden tour in the nation—celebrating its centennial in style by recreating the first-ever event, honoring every decade since, and introducing a brand-new ticketed evening experience: the 1920s Swinging Soirée.
During the day, stroll through Historic New Castle and experience a vibrant celebration of the past. Tour private homes and gardens—some rarely open to the public—alongside historic houses, museums, and churches throughout town. Step aboard Delaware’s tall ship, the Kalmar Nyckel, for a dock tour, and take in live demonstrations from colonial artisans, craftspeople, and living history encampments. Admire vintage vehicles from 1900–1940 courtesy of the Brandywine Antique Car Club, antique steam cars from the Marshall Steam Car Museum, and fascinating antique bicycles from The Wheelmen. Families will also enjoy a full slate of children’s activities and a lively Saturday Market.
