Get ready, art lovers! The Delaware Art Museum is bringing an exciting new exhibition to Wilmington, showcasing the power of printmaking and artistic collaboration. Marisol to Warhol: Printmaking and Creative Collaboration opens on March 15, 2025, and runs through September 7, 2025, offering visitors a chance to explore the groundbreaking work of some of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Featuring a lineup of legendary artists—including Andy Warhol, Marisol Escobar, Jacob Lawrence, Lowell Nesbitt, Luis Cruz Azaceta, and Salvador Dalí—this exhibition is a testament to the creative energy that fueled printmaking during the 1960s through the early 1990s. Printmaking flourished during this period as artists sought to make their work more accessible and to experiment with new techniques. The exhibition brings together over a dozen portfolios and suites from DelArt’s collection, highlighting the collaborations and artistic breakthroughs that defined the era.

A unique feature of this exhibition is the inclusion of Walter’s Advice (1970) by William T. Williams, on loan from Art Bridges. This striking painting will be displayed alongside Williams’ newly acquired print portfolio, offering a fascinating look at how an artist’s vision translates across different media.

Expanding on the exhibition’s themes, DelArt has commissioned three local artists—Oscar Eduardo de Paz, Cony Madariaga, and Alim Smith—to create prints inspired by the missions of three Wilmington-based organizations: Kuumba Academy, the Latin American Community Center, and the Route 9 Library & Innovation Center. This special collection, Painters Print, will be on view in the Museum’s Orientation Hallway and at locations throughout the city, bringing art into the heart of the community. To make this exhibition even more engaging, DelArt is hosting a series of events designed to deepen visitors' appreciation for printmaking and its impact on contemporary art:

Gallery Talks: Throughout the exhibition, curators Fisher and Winslow will lead discussions on specific print portfolios. Don’t miss the March 28 talk on 10: Artist as Catalyst, the June 26 session on Merce Cunningham’s collaborations with Pop artists, or the July 17 exploration of Lowell Nesbitt’s NASA-inspired prints.

DelArt Night Print Fair (April 17): Meet regional printmakers, learn about their craft, and even start your own art collection at this special event.

University Night Lecture with Artist William T. Williams (May 1): Hear firsthand from the artist about his time as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Delaware in 1970 and how that experience shaped his work. He’ll be in conversation with art historian Julie L. McGee.
