Wilmington’s premier contemporary art museum, The Delaware Contemporary, invites you to embark on a thought-provoking journey through its Winter/Spring 2025 season. Running from January 17 to May 25, the season’s theme, “The Dinner Table,” transforms this everyday fixture into a profound symbol of connection, history, and identity. Curated by Chase Dougherty, the Gretchen Hupfel Curator of Contemporary Art, and supported by Curatorial Assistant Kasia Bunofsky and guest curator Erica Loustau, this multidisciplinary exhibition series features over 40 works by 18 distinguished artists.

At its heart, “The Dinner Table” explores the table as both a physical object and a conceptual idea. From nostalgic reflections to social critiques, these works invite audiences to engage in an exploration of human connection through a diverse array of media, including painting, sculpture, and installation.

Each of the seven exhibitions within the “The Dinner Table” series offers a unique perspective, a few highlights from the exhibition include:

  • Take A Seat: Reflect on how domestic settings become vessels of personal and communal history.

  • Can I Please Eat in the Computer Room Tonight?: Nicole Nikolich’s work captures the nostalgia of adolescent solitude.

  • Spoken Stitch: Aliyah Bonnette’s quilt work explores the merging of personal identity with historical consciousness.

  • Phantasia: Delve into the elusive nature of memory and how time reshapes our perceptions of idyllic family meals.

  • Vanitas: A contemporary reimagining of traditional still-life iconography, transforming tables set for meals into artful commentaries.

Join The Delaware Contemporary for the season-opener during the First Friday Art Loop on February 7, 2025, from 5–9 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the exhibitions, meet some of the featured artists, and experience the museum’s vibrant atmosphere.
