This winter, Wilmington’s arts scene takes a bold, contemporary turn as First State Ballet Theatre (FSBT) returns to the stage with Dreams in Motion, a captivating double bill performed February 21–22, 2026 at the intimate Baby Grand Theater inside Wilmington’s Grand Opera House. Designed to transport audiences into a whimsical, surreal dreamscape, this program showcases the imaginative power and physical daring that define FSBT’s contemporary repertoire.  Dreams in Motion - First State Ballet

Dreams in Motion revives two beloved works by acclaimed choreographer Viktor Plotnikov, a longtime collaborator of the company. Audiences will experience Fantasy to Dvořák, which premiered in 2021, alongside the highly anticipated return of Nonsense (In the Sense of Innocence), a fan favorite last seen onstage in 2014. Both ballets blend playful storytelling with striking costumes and electrifying movement, inviting viewers into worlds that feel at once dreamlike, humorous, and deeply expressive.

Together, these two works highlight the versatility of First State Ballet Theatre and its commitment to presenting ballet that is both daring and accessible. Whether you’re a longtime dance enthusiast or new to contemporary ballet, Dreams in Motion promises an evening that is imaginative, moving, and unforgettable.
