Holiday Open House 

Experience the magic of the holiday season at Rockwood's Holiday Open House in New Castle County. Enjoy a dazzling display of local talent, from choirs to dance troupes, along with food trucks, a tree lighting ceremony, Santa's display, and an enchanting train ride through the gardens. Don't miss the self-guided tours of the museum's festive decorations and the featured exhibition, Visions of Sugarplums. This proud local tradition welcomes all ages and is free to attend!

Rockwood Museum New Year's Day Hike 

Embark on a New Year's two-mile hike around the renowned Rockwood historic estate and uncover one of Delaware's premier walking trails. Guided by experts, this hike provides an opportunity to delve into the architecture, gardens, and distinctive scenery of northern Delaware.  Arrive early for family activities, enjoy warm beverages, and don't forget to dress in layers. After the invigorating hike, warm up with a self-guided tour of the feature exhibition, Visions of Sugarplums, inside the museum. RSVP to ensure there is enough cocoa for everyone. All ages welcome. It's a FREE event!

Winter Lights at Rockwood 

Experience the enchantment of Rockwood's holiday decorations after dark during this ideal date night. Begin with a romantic stroll through the illuminated gardens, followed by an exploration of the beautifully adorned interiors and feature exhibition inside the museum. It's a self-guided tour with a cash bar. Dress warmly and enjoy the festive atmosphere. All ages are welcome, and it's free!

Below the Stairs and In the Attics: The Servants’ Tour 

Explore Rockwood through the eyes of its dedicated servants from the 1850s to the 20th century. Gain a deeper understanding of the estate's history, including spaces not typically open to the public. This 90-minute tour, which involves navigating multiple staircases, offers a unique perspective on Rockwood Mansion. All ages are welcome, but registration is required due to limited space.

Poetry in the Mansion: A Child's Christmas in Wales 

Rockwood's Poet in Residence David P. Kozinski and actress and director Patti Allis Mengers will present a dramatic reading of A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas and other favorites of the festive season, both sacred and secular.  Q&A and an open mic will follow. Light refreshments will be offered. The event is FREE for all ages with a ticket. Tickets are limited.

Candlelight Tours 

Rockwood changes from the horticulture paradise of the day into a romantic stage for glimmering surfaces and sumptuous textures at night. Despite its modern conveniences, including bright gas-powered lighting, the families that lived here often preferred the soft drama of candlelight. This tour allows visitors to experience the museum’s interiors in the way they were intended. All ages are welcome on the 90-minute guided tour.
