The Delaware Symphony is among the premier regional orchestras in the United States and Delaware’s only fully professional orchestra. With predecessor organizations beginning in the nineteenth century, The DSO has brought the symphonic experience to the First State’s cultural life since 1906.

Directing the DSO since 2003, David Amado leads the Symphony with excellence and an energetic connection to each audience. Dedicated to musical enrichment, Amado commented, “I am thrilled at the variety and scope of our coming season.”

"We are very excited to announce the Classics and Chamber Series offerings for the 2019/2020 season, our 114th and David Amado's 17th,” said DSO Executive Director Alan Jordan. “There is a breadth of repertoire--including works by women composers on each Chamber Series concert--to satisfy every patron's palate. Our audiences will experience both very familiar and less familiar works, and will be treated to amazing guest soloists, including several superstars of the future, during the course of the season. We cap off the year with Beethoven's Choral Symphony, in tribute to the composer's 250th birthday and to celebrate the inextinguishable spirit of society in overcoming adversity and challenges."

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra’s 114th season, is set to begin September 27, 2019! With Music Director David Amado conducting, Copeland Hall at the Grand Opera House will soon be filled with music lovers from near and far. The introductory program, titled “Bohemian Rhapsody,” will open with Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) by Alfred I. duPont Award-winning composer Missy Mazzoli.

The DSO season, running through May 15, 2020, will continue with Classic Series concerts in Copeland Hall at The Grand on Fridays!

November 15, 2019 – War and Peace, the music of Ravel, Beethoven, and Nielsen, with Michael Brown, piano

January 17, 2020 – False Starts, the music of Borodin, Elgar, and Rachmaninoff, with Camille Thomas, cello

March 27, 2020 – Spirit World, the music of Weber, Mozart, and Holst, with Anthony McGill, clarinet

May 15, 2020 – Fate and Hope, the music of Brahms and the Beethoven Symphony No. 9, with the UD Symphonic Choir, Paul Head, Director.

 

The DSO’s Chamber Series concerts, on Tuesdays, at 7:30 p.m., in the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel du Pont, will begin on October 22, 2019, with a DSO Chamber Orchestra concert conducted by David Amado, featuring Concertmaster David Southorn, with the music of Jennifer Higdon, Astor Piazzola, and Tchaikovsky.

Tickets: Season Subscriptions to both the Classics Series and Chamber Series are available now by calling the DSO Office, 302-656-7442, ext. 1000. Five-concert Classics Series subscriptions are available until September 27, 2019, for $85, $115, $215, and $360; student subscriptions are $50. All Chamber Series 4-concert subscriptions are $220 through October 22. Single tickets go on sale Thursday, August 1, 2019. Single ticket prices for Classics Series concerts are $19, $29, $49, and $80; $10 in any section for students age 21 and under with ID. Chamber Series tickets are $60 each and include a complimentary coffee and dessert buffet at intermission.
