Wilmington, DEL...Here's the latest Update on the Wilmington Area including the addition of new hotels and exhibitions, both ongoing and upcoming.

Wilmington Area Adds Four New Hotels

The Westin Wilmington Hotel is now operational.  The full-service 10-story, Leed-certified hotel with 180 rooms and suites is physically connected to the Chase Center on the Riverfront, Wilmington's largest multi-purpose event facility with 87,000 square feet of flexible meeting or exhibition space and plenty of free parking.  The hotel has 5,000 square feet of meeting space including a 2,100 square foot Legal Center, and features an upscale restaurant and bar, oversized indoor pool and fitness center.

The Hampton Inn & Suites Wilmington/Christiana celebrates its grand opening this week.  This new hotel offers 136 guest rooms and suites, 720 square feet of meeting space, complimentary hot breakfast, free high-speed Wi-Fi and 24-hour Suite Shop!

Four Points by Sheraton in Newark and Fairfield Inn in New Castle are expected to open before the end of 2014.

Ongoing Exhibitions

Winterthur's blockbuster exhibition Costumes of Downton Abbey continues through January 4, 2015. A co-production of Carnival Films and Masterpiece, it depicts life in the fictional British household of the Earl and Countess of Grantham contrasting and comparing it to the world of Winterthur founder Henry Francis du Pont and his contemporaries during the first half of the twentieth century.  Forty authentic costumes from the television show are on display in Winterthur's largest gallery space and integrated with videos, photographs and vignettes.  Timed tickets may be purchased on line at www.winterthur.org/admission or by calling (800) 448-3883 or (302) 888-4600.

Fashion Meets Science: Introducing Nylon is on display in Hagley Museum & Library's Visitor Center through January 25, 2015.  This fascinating exhibit shows how nylon has revolutionized the fashion industry since its introduction by the DuPont Company in
1938.

Upcoming Exhibitions

Colorful Folk: Pennsylvania Germans & the Art of Everyday Life opens at Winterthur on March 1, 2015 through January 3, 2016.  This exhibition includes an exceptional assortment of fraktur, decorated manuscripts, textiles and pottery including recent acquisitions from the estate of legendary collector and scholar Frederick S. Weiser.

A special exhibition on Tiffany Glass is expected to open at Winterthur in September, 2015 and will be on display until January, 2016.
