WILMINGTON, Del. (October 28, 2013) - Experience the magic of The Wizard of Oz like never before in Wilmington when the Delaware Children's Museum hosts the first-ever, licensed traveling educational exhibition based on this movie classic and its memorable film characters like Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and the Wicked Witch take the stage at Delaware Children's Theatre.
Created by the Miami Children's Museum and SPARKS in conjunction with Warner Brothers Consumer Products, The Wizard of Oz Children's Traveling Educational Exhibition epitomizes the Delaware Children's Museum's mission "to inspire, children to explore, discover and celebrate the power of their potential through interactive experiences in an environment that stimulates and integrates science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics." Through January 26, 2014, guests at the Delaware Children's Museum can travel from the Gale Farm in Kansas to the Land of Oz, visit Professor Marvel's Wagon, create a tornado in Dorothy's bedroom, enter the Emerald City, explore Munchkinland and even climb up a mountain to the Wicked Witch's castle and attempt to capture her broom from the Winged Monkeys. It's a journey of self-discovery the whole family can enjoy. The Delaware Children's Museum is located in the bright yellow building in Wilmington's Riverfront and it is open seven days a week, 363 days a year, from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Marie Swajeski's Delaware Children's Theatre has been presenting an outstanding Children's Series since 1973 at its historic theatre in Downtown Wilmington and one of the highlights of this year's season is The Wizard of Oz. From November 23 through December 15 on Saturday and Sunday, a talented cast of about 40 adults and young actors brings Dorothy and all the other characters to life on stage. This full scale production of the classic tale follows Dorothy from Kansas to Munchkinland and through the land of Oz and includes lively renditions of popular tunes like "Over the Rainbow", "Courage", "Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead" and "Off to See the Wizard". The play runs for two hours with an intermission complete with cookies and juice followed by photo opportunities with the actors after the show. It's perfect for children ages four and up.
