When the American Birding Association relocated their national headquarters to Delaware City, Delaware in 2014, they made it clear that they were moving to be in one of America's richest birding areas. Every year, thousands of rare songbirds, shorebirds and raptors migrate along the eastern seashore of Delaware, stopping along the way at one of the state’s many natural habitats and wildlife areas.
From the hills and valleys of the Piedmont region and the Ashland Nature Center, to the urban wetlands wildlife refuge of the DuPont Environmental Education Center, to the waterways and shores of the Delaware Estuary, the region offers fertile environments for birding and a friendly welcome to those who come to watch.
