Nightscape: A Light and Sound Experience will be returning to Longwood Gardens this August. Longwood is recognized as one of the world's most celebrated display gardens, and now, thanks to a partnership with the Philadelphia-based visual arts firm Klip Collective, an entirely new dimension will once again be added to the Longwood experience.
Last year, Klip Collective used their patented mapping technology to create synchronized moving light images that combine with an original music score to transform Longwood into a living canvas where light and shadows dance and music fills the air. Nightscape takes visitors on a unique and immersive journey through the gardens, and this year they’ve added even more. This year provides an entirely new experience, even for those who saw last year’s Klip installation.
Klip Collective worked with a team of musicians, composers, and technicians from the Philadelphia area to further integrate music with the Nightscape experience. The soundtrack will be available to buy either digitally or as a limited-edition vinyl record. The vinyl will be available at The GardenShop at Longwood Gardens or online through Amazon and Bandcamp starting August 3.
Visitors can view Nightscape after dark on Wednesday through Saturday evenings from August 3 through October 29, 2016. The show runs from 6-11 pm, but is best viewed at different times as the season changes, so be sure to check the schedule on the Longwood Gardens website.
A note to those wanting to spend the whole day at Longwood: a separate ticket or reservation is required for Nightscape. The gardens close to non-ticket holders at 6:00 pm, but Nightscape ticket holders may continue to tour the gardens. Need to fill some time in between a garden tour and your Nightscape reservation time? We recommend or relaxing in the Beer Garden. The Beer Garden features tasty pub fare and a custom brew from Victory Brewing Company that changes with the season, using either lemons grown in Longwood's gardens or Longwood-harvested honey!
Longwood Gardens, located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is one of the world’s greatest gardens, spanning over 1,077 acres and offering new displays seasonally. The fountains, flowers, and architecture are a living expression of all that founder Pierre S. du Pont found inspiring and beautiful. The gardens are open for viewing between 9 am and 6 pm Sunday through Wednesday and 9 am until 10 pm Thursday through Saturday. Timed tickets can be purchased through the Longwood Gardens website or on site.
Pro Tip: Individuals who have purchased a Brandywine Treasure Trail Passport, good for one-time admission to 11 area attractions between Memorial Day and Labor Day, can upgrade their Passport to include admission to Nightscape. This option is only valid on the day of their Passport visit. The cost for the upgrade is $7.00 per visitor. Nightscape + Day tickets may also be purchased at area hotels. These tickets allow guests to come and experience Nightscape and then return to Longwood Gardens the following day.
