Nemours ChristmasFestivities are scheduled to begin as early as mid-November in Wilmington, Delaware. In store for this holiday season is a celebration of life, love and community bonding. A spectacular show of lights, parades and entertainment is set to take place and instantly transform the city into a winter wonderland. The gleaming fountains at Brandywine Parkway are already showering red and green water into the small pond that serves as the shopping center's centerpiece - tax-free shopping of course. The lights and holiday music in the air are only the beginning. Wilmington residents have a lot to look forward to this year in the way of season cheer.

The Smith Family House on Silverside Road will shine again this year, sporting a lawn Santa himself would be proud of. The charming house at the top of the hill will be decorated from the roof to the mailbox in Christmas décor. If you'd like to engage in a holiday Christmas light adventure, you can also feel free to hitch a ride on the Wilmington and Western Railroad and enjoy a 45-minute train ride in the 1929 Doodlebug. This heated train travels through decorated sections of Wilmington and surrounding suburbs. Even the train itself is a Christmas spectacle draped in colorful lights that shine down the railroad track for miles. Passengers on this train will have the unique opportunity to sing with Santa while taking in the seasonal sights.

Longwood ChristmasOn December 13th, the Wilmington Drama League will bring the classic Miracle on 34th Street musical to the stage. The story of a little girl with unwavering faith in Santa Claus will come to life as the cast belts out classic Christmas jingles such as "It's Beginning to Look A Lot like Christmas". Meanwhile, traditional Christmas caroling is an activity Wilmington residents can participate in this year as the Hagley Museum presents a family caroling workshop complete with toy drums and jingling bells.

The 50th annual Jaycee's Christmas Parade will march through Wilmington on November 30th, honoring soldiers, Santa and pageant winners. This traffic stopping show is certain to recapture the Christmas spirit.

While Christmas is the main event, Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve don't go overlooked in Wilmington. The Thanksgiving Day Run will take place on November 26th at 222 Delaware Avenue with proceeds going to MS research. As the holiday season comes to a close, World Café Live at the Queen will host a New Years Eve bash featuring the David Bromberg Quintet, Bromberg has played with everyone from Bob Dylan to the Eagles, Willie Nelson and Carly Simon just to name a few, and knows how to entertain a crowd.

The holiday spirit is already alive in Wilmington and the city has only just begun the celebration. Check out these other great holiday parades in and around Greater Wilmington...
