This blog is going to take a different approach, but still in my event and festival world.  Two years ago, my husband and I attended an event for the Delaware Museum of Natural History, the annual Wine and Dinosaurs. Once inside, after some hugs and smiles, Gary said, "Wow! I believe the last time I was in the museum was on a school trip.  I replied, "You have to be kidding really?"  Gary replied, "Pretty sure."

I was shocked.  For me, I am very lucky in my role as the Executive Director of the Greater Wilmington Convention & Visitors Bureau to go to our many attractions on a regular basis.  I then took Gary by the hand and pointed out the coral reef walkover, the African watering hole, the giant clam and the bird eggs and so much more.  Gary and I walked around and looked at every label.  I even told him they have a cat "dude" that is on social media.

At this event, there was a silent auction.  They had an Adopt an Animal Ambassador program.  You will never guess what we are proud owners of ...Madagascar Hissing cockroaches (thankfully the Museum keeps)! Yes, and Gary is very proud!

Our funding of these "cockroaches" help the DMNH with medical supply, food, supplies and maintenance for all of their live animals, which work in concert to bring education and research initiatives to the public.

Don't get me wrong, the Delaware Museum of Natural History is much more than events; it is about the educating visitors about the wonders of the natural world for more than 40 years and hosts rotating traveling exhibitions.  I encourage you to check out, but don't mess with my cockroaches!
