Have you ever sailed on a square-rigged colonial ship? Kalmar Nyckel, The Tall Ship of Delaware, is a full scale replica of the merchant ship that brought Swedish settlers to North America in 1638, to begin establishing the colony of New Sweden (Delaware). Guests are invited to haul lines, set sails, and enjoy maritime tales of the original Kalmar Nyckel - or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the water. Kalmar Nyckel is available for day sails, pirate sails, dockside tours, private parties/charters during the sailing season. Educational programming and exhibits are offered year-round to thousands of school children at the Copeland Maritime Center at the Kalmar Nyckel shipyard campus. Opportunities to join the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation and volunteer on land and water abound - you can learn to sail this ship!
