Enjoy the promenade along the Old Chesapeake & Delaware canal for outstanding scenic views of Fort Delaware (1859) and the Delaware River. Your walking tour features more than 250 historic structures dating back to the 1820s. Shops and restaurants welcome you. Delaware City is a quaint riverfront community proud of its rich history and excited about the future. Located on the Delaware River in New Castle County, Delaware, Delaware City is the gateway to many natural and historic treasures, such as the Delaware Estuary marshes, the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal, Fort Delaware and Fort DuPont. Enjoy the town’s restaurants and shops and to stroll through the Historic District, which has over 200 structures featuring architectural styles spanning the 19th and early 20th centuries. Delaware City maintains floating docks for public use without a charge in season (May–October). There are no services available and no overnight docking is permitted. The privately owned Delaware City Marina (302) 834-4172 offers fuel and overnight docking facilities. The State of Delaware operates a public boat ramp across the Branch Canal from Delaware City. The launch is accessible through the Fort DuPont State Park entrance on Route 9. Come see us! Delaware City is a great place to visit, live, and work.

  • Hours of operation: Visitors may visit Town Hall Monday thru Thursday 8:30am to 5:30pm and Friday 8:30am to 12:30pm. Our shops, restaurants and Fort Delaware ticket office can also assists you with visitor information during the week and on Sunday's.
