The Spirit of Christmas is a town-wide holiday celebration in Historic New Castle sponsored by the New Castle Presbyterian Church featuring Victorian Teas, characters in costume throughout the town, performances of A Christmas Carol, private homes, historic properties and churches decorated for the season, and musical events throughout the day. The festivities conclude with a tree lighting ceremony on the Green at 5:30 PM. Schedules for the day are available at the New Castle Presbyterian Church at 25 East 2nd Street.
During the Spirit of Christmas, the New Castle Historical Society provides admission to the Amstel House and Dutch House for free from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. The Amstel House, at 2 East Fourth Street, will be decorated for a traditional colonial holiday celebration and the Dutch House, at 32 East 3rd Street, will feature a celebration of St. Nicholas' Eve.
