Who doesn’t love technology?  Actually, I think we all have a love-hate relationship with it but let’s be honest it has made a huge impact on how we operate in today's world, even in art.  Technology has made an impressive impact through digital art, as a seductive contemporary experience to today’s art and specifically for young artists. Drawing is most times a starting point for bringing forth creative ideas.  The traditional aspect of the creative drawing process cannot to be forgotten.  Henry Bermudez, a Venezuelan born artist reminds us of the wonders of traditional drawing and refreshes our palate with it in a three dimensional way.  “Henry Bermudez in Black and White" is a testament to how drawing is important, specifically in black and white where a drawing looks "naked" as it has been destitute  of extra " accessories". Bermudez's black and white drawings are very much an ambient theme to his creative spirit.

Delaware College of Art & Design foundation classes still teach the traditional facets of drawing and like our institution, he sees it as a technical skill that informs all of his work.  He explained, “The difference between painting and drawing is that drawing has always been seen as a previous sketch for a painter, for many years the drawing has been seen as a minor art , using it as sketch for a painting or sculpture but there are artists who draw and don’t make paintings or sculptors they make drawings.”  In “Henry in black and white” Henry experiments with his drawings, approaching them as three dimensional, organic and geometrical forms.  This exhibition will approach his drawings in a provisional way while requiring the viewer to invest in his and DCAD's tradition.
