I-95 Construction Advisory:
A major improvement project is underway at the I-95 & SR896 interchange in Newark, Delaware, south of Wilmington. Travelers should expect delays or find alternate routes.
Limited run - TWO SHOWS ONLY! Witty. Complex. Captivating. Generous Fire: Charles Dickens In America stars Brian McCann - who conceived, wrote, and performs the piece solo. As Dickens, McCann leads us through a fictionalized lecture of one of the author's late-in-life public readings in the United States. While the presentation is a flight of the imagination, the circumstances are true and nearly all of the words spoken come from Mr. Dickens himself. The celebrated writer has already survived one stroke, but the end of his life is imminent. The strain of his second American tour has proven too much for him, and his doctor has become his sole traveling companion. The public mask slips, and we catch a glimpse of things "Boz" would never willingly present to his public. McCann is a Delaware native, known throughout Philadelphia and the region for his work as an actor and with ComedySportz Philadelphia Improv, making his CTC debut. Generous Fire: Charles Dickens In America is being presented in tandem with Jenna Kuerzi's solo show Johnny Depp: A Retrospective On Late-Stage Capitalism as part of CTC's commitment to celebrating original works by regional artists. Artistic Director Kerry Kristine McElrone is thrilled to bring these two plays and performers to Delaware as part of CTC's 30th anniversary celebration. Says McElrone City Theater Company throughout our 30-year history has been a proud champion of new plays and playwrights. We have produced several World Premieres, workshopping full plays from page to stage, and through our One-Act and Ten-Minute Play Festivals have given voice to many playwrights, both those established and those just starting out. Supporting new and original work is a critical part of CTC's mission, and as Artistic Director I am thrilled that these two plays and their authors are joining the many voices we have been privileged to partner with over the past 30 years in this respect.
