My uncle Thomas Garrett and aunt Rachel Mendinhall Garrett devoted their entire life to the equality of all people.  From the abolition of slavery to women's rights, uncle Thomas and aunt Rachel had a hand in everything, almost right up to the day they died.  But the plight of the enslaved African-American community was nearest and dearest to their heart.  A friend of both William Lloyd Garrison and Harriet Tubman, uncle Thomas and aunt Rachel helped an estimated 2,700 enslaved people find freedom
