These drawings – collectively titled Foreign Bodies – reference medical illustration while depicting various objects that may or may not commonly be thought of as part of the human body. The series is driven by the question: what is the difference between a foreign body and a familiar body? The drawings focus on this ontological threshold through a combination of randomly spilled ink and intricate cross-hatching on 80” scrolls of Yupo. Each piece shows the result of various musings regarding what might enter the body surgically, accidentally, deliberately, violently, and aesthetically.  - Artist Statement, Vesna Jovanovic
