Exciting things are happening at the Read House & Gardens! In response to the intensive hands-on Guide to Historic House Museums workshop held this past February with UD Museum Studies students, the Read House is experimenting with innovative ways to create new visitor experiences. Visitors are now permitted and encouraged to take photos as they tour the home and engage with the spaces in creative and interactive ways. From handling the tools used to fashion the elegant punch and gouge carving in the front parlor, lifting heavy cooking pots in the kitchen, reflecting on the personal lives of the servants in the cramped servants’ quarters, sitting at the Palladian window overlooking the Delaware River, or snapping a picture with Philip and Lydia Laird in the Tap Room, this engaging tour will allow visitors to see the house in a whole new way.
Photography is still permitted on all tours.
Hours:
Wednesday - Friday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
