The winter season may put some of our garden attractions into hibernation, but Longwood Gardens takes on the winter season with warmth, wonder, and wow moments at every turn. Winter Wonder at Longwood is on view through March 24. The ever-changing and always stunning indoor conservatory captivates with bold blooms, textural touches, and grand displays under glass. We welcome you to experience the wonder of winter delights, day after day.
Celebrate Black History Month:
Throughout February we celebrate Black History Month. Be sure to add these incredibly informative cultural events to your itineraries.
FREE Zoo Days
In the winter months, from now through mid-March, Brandywine Zoo admission is FREE for all! Brave the cooler weather and enjoy some time outside with the kids, learning a bit more about animals that like the cold. Some of the featured animals at the zoo, however, would rather stay inside, so if you’re looking to see a specific animal, be sure to double check the Zoo’s website before heading into town.
Mardi Gras Events
This year, Fat Tuesday is celebrated on February 13th. Here’s what there is to do in Wilmington & the Brandywine Valley to celebrate.
Valentine’s Day is coming up quickly! Be sure to ditch the card and chocolates this year to plan a perfect adventure in Wilmington & the Brandywine Valley.
Landscape Design Workshop
Looking to take on a house project this spring? Learn from someone who can help! Join the Residential Landscape Design Workshop at the Mt. Cuba Center on February 16 and 17. Good garden design isn’t easy; but success waits for anyone with a passion for plants, a little imagination, and proper guidance. A professional landscape designer will show guests how to analyze a site, draw a basic plan, and use design principles for laying out paths, planting beds, and other garden features. Through lectures and drawing exercises, students can explore design options, assess landscape materials, and employ a process that results in a practical planning document for their individual landscape project.
This February brings rock and roll to the Grand Opera House in downtown Wilmington. The Rock Orchestra is Delaware Valley's premier tribute group. And on February 17th, they take on Bruce Springsteen classics! Their goal is to present recreations of studio recordings by classic artists live on stage - either performing career retrospectives or a series of complete albums performed live. They even utilize a talent pool of local musicians. Be sure to add this event to your weekend plans.
Always... Patsy Cline
Beginning February 21st, enjoy Always...Patsy Cline at the Delaware Theatre Company. This crowd-pleasing musical, full of down-home country humor and heartfelt emotion, is based on the true story of the friendship between Patsy and a devoted fan. The show features nearly 30 of Cline’s beloved hits. Singing along is mandatory!
Historic New Castle Restaurant Week
The fourth annual Historic New Castle Restaurant Week takes place February 22 – 25.
Cupid's Undie Run
Another classic February event is the annual Cupid's Undie Run held in downtown Wilmington. This year, on February 24th, runners in cities across the U.S. come together to support those affected by NF, a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. This year, The Queen is hosting Cupid’s Undie Run, kicking it off with drinking and dancing, then a quick jog, and ending the event with an epic dance party!
Disney's The Little Mermaid
The story of The Little Mermaid comes to the Delaware Children’s Theatre for one weekend this month. February 24th and 25th brings the story of the red-headed beauty and her friends to life on stage as she yearns to leave her ocean home behind to live in the world above.
