A few local attractions are now offering experiences you can enjoy at home!  And let’s face it, everybody needs a little escape these days. Even if it is virtual.

1. The Delaware Museum of Natural History is using virtual museum programming to provide an incentive at-home educational experience. From story time and live animal presentations to discovering the museum’s collections via video, the museum will surely keep you and your family entertained. DE Art Museum Online Gallery2. The Delaware Art Museum is taking to their website and social channels to bring you an e-version of their wonderful garden and gallery! Explore through photos of sculptures, artwork and more to learn about the museum's collection and what to see on a future in-person visit.

*Should you need to get out of the house… the museum’s garden remains open to the public from dawn to dusk. Just be sure to keep your distance from others. 

 

Ideas and Activities to Beat the Corona Blues

 

Mt Cuba Virtual Tour3. The Mount Cuba Center has created a virtual tour of its botanic gardens. You can journey through the main house, formal gardens, ponds, meadow and so much more! Visit https://mtcubacenter.org/visit/tour/spring/ to explore the center in all its spring glory. Perfect to gear you up for your future visit! 

 

4. Hagley Museum and Library is taking to their Facebook page to bring you Virtual Tour Tuesdays! Be sure to tune into their profile to check out awesome images bringing Hagley's museum and garden right to your home (until you can visit again!) But wait, there's more! The museum has taken full advantage of the current situation allowing visitors to explore, learn, and create right from home every day of the week!  

 

5. Delaware Shakespeare is also keeping you connected to the arts with daily (virtual of course) sonnet readings through their Instagram page! We're sure you've never heard Shakespeare quite like this before. 

 

6. Longwood Gardens has started “Our Gardens Your Home,” featuring pictures and video of what’s currently in bloom at this world renowned botanical gardens. It also includes online learning opportunities and lessons for all ages. Check it out at www.longwoodgardens.org. Longwood is using social media to stay in touch with visitors too! People are invited to join conversations about what they are doing in their own gardens to get ready for spring and keep up with the latest Longwood updates on Twitter. On Instagram, garden enthusiasts from around the world are sharing their own images from nature, and Longwood is featuring a virtual tour of its own gardens as the grounds unfold into spring.

7. The Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art has rolled out “Brandywine at Home.” It includes virtual tours of the museum’s special “Votes for Women” exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, highlights from its permanent collection, nature videos from the lovely Waterloo Mills Preserve, at-home art activities for the kids, and more.

8. The Quaker Hill Historic Preservation Foundation is doing weekly live video posts on its Facebook page about Wilmington and its historic Quaker Hill district.

9. Historic Houses of Odessa has added a History at Home section to its website. It includes fun activities for the whole family including how to curate an exhibit using items in your own home, portrait drawing, traditional recipes to try, a “What in the World Is This?” mystery game, and more.

10. The Wilmington Ballet is offering livestream classes on Zoom. Go to its website for more information and to access a link to the classes.

11. The Delaware Historical Society has created stay-at-home enrichment packets for teachers and students. PDFs of the booklets are available on its website. They include fun activities and exercises geared toward teaching kids about our home state.

12. Deerfield Golf Club has posted a virtual tour of its greens, grounds and recently renovated facilities. The golf course is open to Delaware residents on a limited spacing with six-plus feet of social distancing required.

Through Friday, April 24, all Delaware State Parks are sharing a variety of virtual programs on park Facebook pages including videos, activities, scavenger hunts in celebration of Earth Day (April 22). Others like Winterthur Museum, Gardens & LibraryBiggs Museum of Art, and The Delaware Contemporary are all taking on virtual tours of their galleries to #bringarthome. Even the Delaware Children's Museum is taking to virtual learning opportunities for the kiddos! Be sure to take advantage of these and other awesome experiences like these during this trying time.
