Whether you are looking to break a sweat or break the bank, Greater Wilmington offers up plenty of exciting sports
and recreation action.
Named by the League of American Bicyclists as one of America's top-10 bicycle friendly states visitors can enjoy a wide range of challenging road and mountain bike trails throughout Greater Wilmington - many taking riders directly through our historic towns, charming neighborhoods, and rolling hills of the Brandywine Valley National Scenic Byway.
The area's natural beauty and rolling hills also play backdrop to many challenging championship golf courses throughout New Castle County, including several public course options. In addition, many of our state and county parks offer excellent tennis facilities, as well as wonderful opportunities for hiking, bird watching, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing.
Greater Wilmington is also home to a number of professional sports including Wilmington Blue Rocks Baseball, the single-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals. And, each year the city streets fill with fans, enthusiast, visitors and residents as the annual Wilmington Grand Prix and Delaware Marathon take place in the spring. For five years, the Grand Prix has been named to USA Cycling's National Calendar and is one of only 19 races to make the USAC National Criterium Calendar, while the Delaware Marathon attracts runners from across the 50-states as well as international participants.
For visitors looking to throw down a small wager Casino at Delaware Park offers live thoroughbred racing May through November, as well as year-round table games, slots and sports betting.
