The scenic backdrop of the Brandywine River inspires a newly commissioned work by Brooklyn-based artist Matthew Jensen. The installation derives from immersive walks taken by Jensen throughout the summer months in the landscapes along the Brandywine and its tributaries. The verdant slopes, quiet footpaths, native flora, historic towns and small discoveries are all subjects in Jensen’s photographic work. The artist is known for embracing new photographic technology as means to explore landscape and he will continue to push the medium with this new work.  The resulting images and found objects will be displayed in a setting designed by the artist in the Museum’s third floor corridor, directly juxtaposed with the landscape that inspired the work. A map created by Jensen will invite visitors to explore the environment surrounding the Museum.

The story of a boy and his cyborg protector completed entirely in lines and phrases taken from the plays of William Shakespeare. Each line and phrase is taken from original folios, with only proper nouns, pronouns and corresponding verb tenses subject to change. In doing so, the authors were able to accurately recreate the story of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, while remaining true to the words of Shakespeare in form, if less so in intent.Developed by the creative team at Husky Jackal Theater for fun and laughs with a one-night only run, the project caught the attention of a number of influential websites and publications, including the SyFy channel, Gawker science blog i09 and Mental Floss magazine and was reaching supporters as far-flung as Brazil, the Philippines, Australia and the United Kingdom.$15 online; $18 at the door

Over his remarkable seven-decade career, Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009) created thousands of drawings in graphite and watercolor, a body of work that he rarely exhibited. The drawings in this exhibition provide a fascinating glimpse into his creative process. They were created by Wyeth in preparation for four paintings—Faraway (1952), Corner of the Woods (1954), Roasted Chestnuts (1956), and Garret Room (1962). Each drawing is part of the process Wyeth used to work out his vision for his paintings. Many were sketched outdoors and reveal Wyeth’s immediate response to figures or objects in a composition. The exhibition includes 23 drawings and three paintings.

Joe Trainor and City Theater Company present COME TOGETHER, a career-spanning live concert event featuring The Beatles recorded works. From Love Me Do to Let It Be, City Theater Company turns 21 with a little help from their friends for the 2014-2015 season kick-off: an evening of Beatles music at World Café Live at The Queen. Wilmington-based rocker Joe Trainor produces and directs the one-night only event, which features musicians and actors from throughout the company’s history. The show is a career-spanning retrospective of the Fab Four’s song catalog, mixing up #1 hits like She Loves You and A Hard Day’s Night to fan favorites like Norwegian Wood and The Ballad of John and Yoko. Proceeds benefit City Theater Company. From the their early days at The Cavern Club, through the psychedelic era and beyond, The Beatles re-wrote the book on popular songs and set the stage for the next 50 years of music. Seventeen singers share vocal duties for this two-hour concert event, backed by a six-piece rock band, a nine-piece horn section, and a string quartet. Trainor’s goal is to recreate the sound of the classic recordings live on stage.Founded in 1993, City Theater Company performs contemporary comedies, new works, and classic musicals to critical acclaim in an intimate black box theater on the Wilmington waterfront. Their mission is to create a body of work for the stage that is consistently high-quality, provocative and new; a body of work that takes risks and breaks barriers in order to engage new theater audiences in an exciting exchange of ideas, images and energies.Singers and musicians include Tonya Baynes, Jim Burns, Matt Casarino, Petra Deluca, Josh Dowiak, Jessica Eaves, Dylan Geringer, Jake Hager, Lew Indellini, Righteous Jolly, Jill Knapp, Kerry Kristine McElrone, Paul McElwee, Dana Michael, Kanako Neale, Kevin Regan, Frank Schierloh, Brendan Sheehan, Julie Snow Regan, Joe Trainor, and Adam Wahlberg.TICKET DETAILS: General admission $20 is standing room only. Priceless antiquities. Ruthless grave robbers. International criminals who rob the cultural heritage of Italy, trading in goods stolen from the necropolises of Tarquinia to the posh auction houses of London, England, from the seedy underbelly of the black market to world-renown museums.Ripped from the case files of the Guardia di Finanza, stories like these will be told during “Treasures and Tales of Italy’s Guardia di Finanza Art Recovery Team,” a groundbreaking exhibition of priceless works of Etruscan and Greco-Roman art and craftsmanship, on display at The Grand Opera House from Oct. 3-Dec. 21.Each ancient ceramic, mosaic and statue in the exhibit tells a story, not just of the time of its creation, but also of its theft and recovery by the indefatigable agents of the Gruppo Tutela Patrimonio Archeologico, the art recovery team inside the Guardia di Finanza. The Guardia di Finanza, with headquarters in Rome, is Italy’s national law enforcement agency tasked with fighting financial crime and recovering stolen art and artifacts.

Influenced by the music of India, the Middle East, and other far-flung locales, the Scott Davidson Trio combines beautiful melodies with various improvisational traditions. The group creates a genre-defying sound, including Lloyd Shorter (Oboe & English Horn), Roger Mgrdichian (Oud & Cumbus), and Scott Davidson (Dumbek & Percussion). The trio will be joined by Indian mandolin virtuoso Snehasish Mozumder and tabla player Renendra Das for a true meeting of Western and Eastern music.

While each member carries an impressive resume of professional experience, the devotion to collaboration and the pursuit of a unique group sound sets them apart. Together, Haas, Kowert, and Tice have produced a body of work containing flights of improvisation and interesting compositional turns all grounded by memorable melodies and driving rhythms which blend their bluegrass, classical, and folk music styles. The group''s adventurous spirit and desire to show the audience something new is never at the expense of the most rewarding components of music such as the beauty of a well-crafted tune or the dance-inspiring energy of a great groove.
