Organized to complement the Museum’s showing of Performance Now, Retro·active presents a historical view of performance art. This important genre exploded onto the scene in the mid-1960s and has developed over the past 50 years to incorporate dance, music, theater, technology and audience participation and to address aesthetic, personal, social, economic and political concerns. Six groundbreaking works by artists Chris Burden, Dan Graham, Joan Jonas, Paul McCarthy, Yoko Ono and Carolee Schneemann trace this pivotal moment and provide a context for contemporary performance art.*Some artworks contain mature content; adults with children may wish to preview the exhibition before visiting.

Curated by RoseLee Goldberg and co-organized by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York and Performa, New York, Performance Now presents a survey of visual performance art at the start of the 21st century. Goldberg first mapped the development of this art form in her seminal 1979 book, Performance Art: From Futurism to the Present. In 2004, she founded Performa, the international organization, and in 2005 started the Performa 05, the first biennial of visual art performance. Performance Now examines the definitive role the medium has taken in contemporary art and culture and includes objects, ephemera, sound and video of the performances displayed through large wall projections and monitors. The exhibition is composed of work by leading artists including Marina Abramovi, Jérôme Bel, Christian Jankowski, William Kentridge, Jesper Just and Laurie Simmons.*Some artworks contain mature content; adults with children may wish to preview the exhibition before visiting.

The scenic backdrop of the Brandywine River inspires a newly commissioned work by Brooklyn-based artist Matthew Jensen. The installation derives from immersive walks taken by Jensen throughout the summer months in the landscapes along the Brandywine and its tributaries. The verdant slopes, quiet footpaths, native flora, historic towns and small discoveries are all subjects in Jensen’s photographic work. The artist is known for embracing new photographic technology as means to explore landscape and he will continue to push the medium with this new work.  The resulting images and found objects will be displayed in a setting designed by the artist in the Museum’s third floor corridor, directly juxtaposed with the landscape that inspired the work. A map created by Jensen will invite visitors to explore the environment surrounding the Museum.

These programs, which are led by licensed mental health professionals, have successfully assisted cancer patients and their caregivers by providing tools to cope with feelings of loneliness, boost spirits and improve overall quality of life. Cancer Support Community Delaware operates as a nonprofit and provides all services at no charge. The organization is funded by generous donations and grants from individuals, foundations, corporations and government. CSCD has been supporting the cancer community in Delaware for nearly 25 years. Many consider the annual Amish Country Bike Tour a "bucket list" event. Others wouldn't miss it. Some have joined the annual fun for 20+ years. A few come from England. Hundreds come from all over the country, and Delaware itself represents at least 500 cyclists.Registration is now open for teams and individuals. Registration Fees (You may register online at http://www.AmishCountryBikeTour.com, or download the registration form from the website and mail it in): May 17-July 31: $50/adult; $25/5-16; Under 5 free• August 1-September 6: $60/Adult; $30/5-16; Under 5 free.Team registration is also open. Teams must have 10 members to qualify for the discounted rates. To enter as a team, email csmall@visitdover.com or call 302-734-1736Amish.Now in its 28th year, this cycling event is the largest in Delaware and one of the largest on the East Coast. Cyclists say they really enjoy the flat, flat, flat roads. "As flat as a pancake," say our Amish neighbors. Others enjoy the camaraderie, the "team" effect, the slice of locally-baked fruit pies served at the Amish Schoolhouse, and then the 100-milers appreciate the easy-to-navigate course.Kent County Tourism is the coordinating non-profit organization that has been running the event for nearly 20 years. Its early origins began with a small bike club that formed a team ride through the countryside west of Dover. It was so popular that the event doubled in size year after year until the point that volunteers could no longer manage the event. In comes Kent County Tourism, known for its organization skills and the ability to execute large-scale, award-winning events. The event has grown to be THE largest in Delaware and one of the largest on the East Coast. Why do cyclists prefer this ride? In addition to being flat (Kent County is about two feet above sea level), cyclists enjoy the panoramic countryside, seeing the non-commercialized working Amish farms, getting up close and personal at the Amish Schoolhouse, enjoying "small town America," and of course, the to-die-for catered barbecue meal at the end of their ride. And there's more! The tour starts and stops at historic Legislative Mall. It offers five loops: 15, 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles, so cyclists from one (ride-alongs) to 82 participate. Cyclists are now booking lodging for the weekend and taking advantage of all the free museums, gambling at the local casinos, guided historic tours and the delicious restaurants such as Coolspring Fish Bar and Restaurant, 33 West, McGlynn's, Abbotts Grill, Fraizers, Roma and more. Speaking of lodging, cyclists may remember the former Comfort Inn located at the corner of Route 13 and Division Street, the closest hotel to the bike tour start/stop. This year, the will see a sexy new hotel -- Home2Suites -- a newly-developed Hilton brand. The hotel is the first of its type in Delaware, and to welcome our cyclists, they are offering an after-tour party for those who book with them. Here's more info and other weekend hotel rates as well. Call early as they do sell out prior to bike tour weekend, and you MUST request Amish Bike Tour weekend rates to qualify:• Finish Line Party at Home2Suites -- We're In! Reservations begin July 1!
