Calendar of Events
Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley offer year-round events and entertainment for families, friends and couples alike. Each changing season brings its own unique brand of fun events and excitement.
Winterthur's annual Point-to-Point Steeplechase Race event ushers in the unofficial start to spring for the Greater Wilmington area. Or simply enjoy the lush color and beautiful landscapes found in our rolling hills and woodland areas. The summer season in Greater Wilmington is celebrated with many ethnic events and music festivals, including the free Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. Other events include outdoor concerts, and fun-filled evenings under the stars at our local wineries and breweries, fireworks displays, and fountain shows.
In the fall, outdoor adventure is abundant. Mother Nature paints the landscapes of Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley with sensational colors making it the ideal backdrop for bird watching, antiquing, the Hagley Car Show, or a visit to Fort Delaware. And, when winter takes center stage, Greater Wilmington offers plenty of indoor events and activities. Join in on the theatre and concert season with everything from Broadway productions and ballet to opera and stand-up comedians. Plus, the holiday season is ablaze with spirit from November to January as the area celebrates in many unique ways. Magnificent museums and mansions are dressed for the holidays, private homes in quaint, colonial towns open their doors to the public, indoor gardens are singing with color and the outdoor lighting displays are fabulous.
There's always something happening in Wilmington, and remember, it's all tax-free in Delaware.

Over the past 100 years, the Delaware Art Museum has proudly featured the work of the most accomplished artists in our region. Wilmington-based painter, Mary Page Evans, works directly from nature, seeking to capture a specific landscape, figure, tree or sky. She is engaged by particularity, making an effort to establish the locale, the time of day, and the quality of light. Not surprisingly, her influences include the French impressionists and post-impressionists, as well as the abstract expressionist, Joan Mitchell. Evans has worked at Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny and names Cézanne as an inspiration. The painter, Gene Davis, described her paintings as “hymns of unadulterated joy,” and this exhibition promises to be a gorgeous celebration of nature and the human form, as well as a retrospective covering more than 40 years of the painter’s distinguished career.

Displaying works made overmore than 40 years, Painted Poetry is organized thematically to highlight Evans’ longstanding interests: landscapes, gardens, figures, trees, seas and skies. "Over the years, the Pangs sound has evolved into a wash of blues, jazz, folk, bluegrass and rock 'n' roll. The songs are English major-clever… Their concerts, in theaters and clubs from Baltimore to New York, are part come-to-Jesus celebration, part slow, sweet harmony." – Delaware Today Mad-Sweet Pangs draws their outrageously heady sound from too many genres to even attempt listing and too many influences to even begin naming. They're often described as genreless or, more accurately, genre-transcending. Come to a show and forget everything you know about folk, rock, blues, country, jazz, history, yourself or anything else.

Founded in 2002, Point Blank started out performing at local social functions, private parties, community and high school events, weddings and corporate functions. In 2003 the eight-piece ensemble released their debut album "Pulling Off the Covers" and quickly found themselves headlining at Philadelphia landmarks such as Zanzibar Blue and Warm Daddy's. The group began to pack venues wherever they played. Wanting to expand their musical horizons and display their tremendous talent, Point Blank soon appeared at the Berks County Jazz Festival with greats like Hiroshima, Najee and Doc Powell. 2008 found them on stage at the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival opening for the legendary George Duke, as well as opening for jazz fusion great Jeff Lorber at The Philadelphia 'Welcome America' festival. Later in 2008 Point Blank released another recording called "In the Raw," a cult favorite and endearing tribute to improvisational jazz. Now totally seasoned and ready to do something special for their adoring fans, Point Blank has released their first CD containing entirely original music; "A Point Of View" is an eclectic mix of grooves, rhythms and ballads that reflect a soulful brotherhood with evolving spiritual conscience.

The Steel Wheels are truly an Americana band, rooted in musical styles that explore the territories between blues and bluegrass, old-time sing-alongs and foot-stompin' fiddle tunes. They are subtle innovators who respect the past but whistle their own tunes, layering in rich textures and decidedly modern energy to forge a new sound."Imagine a blend of the passion of the Avett Brothers, the instrumentals of Old Crow Medicine Show, and then sprinkle in the backwoods feel of The Legendary Shack Shakers. In truth, attempting to compare [The Steel Wheels] to anyone is an injustice, since after one listen you can hear that they stand very well on their own perch." - John Walker, Americana Roots.

H4H live, tour and record in their 16 foot, 1961 Bambi Airstream which comes with a dog and baby. Their new release, 'Lucy & Wayne and THE AMERICAN STREAM' was entirely recorded in their classic trailer on a coast to coast U.S tour. Lolly Hopwood and the Let’s Play Today Bunch inspire children to play, exercise and be healthy with their high energy, interactive shows and music! Exposed to a healthy blend of live music, storytelling, and playful activities, children (and adults too) enjoy going on lively adventures, exploring faraway places and just being downright silly! Children love to pretend to be on a romping, fun-filled train ride, pop bubbles and get clean in a giant bubble bath, drive their cars to the red light/green light song and march around like their favorite animals in the zoo. With songs inspired by classic and contemporary kids music from the 70’s and today, Lolly Hopwood and the Let’s Play Today Bunch have a country/folk vibe that’s all their own.The pair released their debut album, Go! Go! Go!, in May 2011. They have been performing music and play concerts throughout Bucks County, PA and towns through the area in PA and NJ, including Philadelphia, at festivals, bookshops, libraries, malls and community events. The group played at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia in February and they are very excited to spread the fun, smiles, and hi-fives in Delaware!“LOLLY HOPWOOD & the LET’S PLAY TODAY BUNCH energizes kids by engaging them in interactive song and dance. Everyone becomes a part of the performance, which draws in the crowd, with their positive message and catchy tunes with just the right mix of giggles, wiggles and smiles!”Betty Satterly - Special Events Coordinator Northampton Township
