Organized to complement the Museum’s showing of Performance Now, Retro·active presents a historical view of performance art. This important genre exploded onto the scene in the mid-1960s and has developed over the past 50 years to incorporate dance, music, theater, technology and audience participation and to address aesthetic, personal, social, economic and political concerns. Six groundbreaking works by artists Chris Burden, Dan Graham, Joan Jonas, Paul McCarthy, Yoko Ono and Carolee Schneemann trace this pivotal moment and provide a context for contemporary performance art.*Some artworks contain mature content; adults with children may wish to preview the exhibition before visiting.

The scenic backdrop of the Brandywine River inspires a newly commissioned work by Brooklyn-based artist Matthew Jensen. The installation derives from immersive walks taken by Jensen throughout the summer months in the landscapes along the Brandywine and its tributaries. The verdant slopes, quiet footpaths, native flora, historic towns and small discoveries are all subjects in Jensen’s photographic work. The artist is known for embracing new photographic technology as means to explore landscape and he will continue to push the medium with this new work.  The resulting images and found objects will be displayed in a setting designed by the artist in the Museum’s third floor corridor, directly juxtaposed with the landscape that inspired the work. A map created by Jensen will invite visitors to explore the environment surrounding the Museum.

Are you in a crisis or challenge right now?Have you ever felt like it’s nearly impossible to love life when life doesn’t seem very loving?Do you know the feeling of frustration, uncertainty and fear when it seems there is absolutely no way to hold yourself together?Has there ever been a time when everything in your life seemed to be completely falling apart? It’s in our falls, our challenges, the crises and the austerities in life that we reset, reboot and reassess what our life is truly about. It’s during these times that we learn once again what’s really important. It’s an opportunity to begin again more intelligently. You can create anything and everything you desire and deserve. I’ve been very blessed in so many areas—in both the highs and the lows. I’ve been blessed to build a high performing team and company—in fact one of the best in the world. We were awarded the Inc. 500 designation in 2009. Harmonic Wealth was a New York Times bestseller, I’ve been blessed to make millions of dollars; and so much more. I’ve been to the highest of heights and the lowest of lows. All the things I’ve ever taught and believed—while I doubted them and questioned them in my time of crises—I’ve come to realize that they’re all still very much true. I just understand them at a much deeper and clearer level than ever before. In fact, I feel more awake and truly alive than ever before. If you’re one of those people facing frustration, challenges and confusion––and you can benefit from some mentoring and an outside perspective from someone who’s been in your shoes––we’re going to start a series of conversations. To offer you this opportunity, my team and I have created a very special and unique experience called fittingly enough, “The Conversation.” As the name implies, this is not an ordinary presentation…it’s a unique custom tailored mentoring session just for you. The agenda is your agenda, focused specifically on the area in which you need to learn and grow.

The story of a boy and his cyborg protector completed entirely in lines and phrases taken from the plays of William Shakespeare. Each line and phrase is taken from original folios, with only proper nouns, pronouns and corresponding verb tenses subject to change. In doing so, the authors were able to accurately recreate the story of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, while remaining true to the words of Shakespeare in form, if less so in intent.Developed by the creative team at Husky Jackal Theater for fun and laughs with a one-night only run, the project caught the attention of a number of influential websites and publications, including the SyFy channel, Gawker science blog i09 and Mental Floss magazine and was reaching supporters as far-flung as Brazil, the Philippines, Australia and the United Kingdom.$15 online; $18 at the door

U.S. Presidents: John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, both George Bushes and Barack Obama…Rich Little has a voice for every administration.Infamous for his skewering of political figures, Little has charmed, amused, intrigued and gotten the best of politicians from here to his native Canada. He entertained at both of Reagan’s presidential inaugurations and got to know the Reagan family very well during that time. President Reagan used to tell Little, “You do me better than I do.”A master mimic of more than 200 voices, Little continues to impress throughout the world, with regular stops in Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Reno, Hawaii, Chicago, New York, Canada and London. A professed classic movie buff, he’s particularly fond of doing Alan Ladd (his childhood hero), Gary Cooper and Clark Gable, but Little has also latched on to Baby Boomer-friendly characters, such as Edith Bunker, Kermit the Frog, Robin Leach and Dr. Ruth Westheimer, to name a few. Some of his favorite current impressions are of stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dr. Phil, Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood. “They’re easy to do,” he says. “They are larger than life.”
