In Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley there are some of us (Ravens Fans) that still feel the wounds delivered by Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots are fresh. For others (Eagles & Redskins Fans) it's been a long second half of the season with highs and lows that have left us fall much shorter then our friends from Baltimore. But, at the end of the season, we all have one thing in common - we tune in to watch the Big Game!

On this special weekend it's more than just Eagles, Ravens, and Redskins fans uniting at locations across Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley. This weekend it's sports enthusiasts, commercial lovers, and kids of all ages that tune in on their big screen TV's as our neighbors from the Northeast battle it out for supreme glory.

If you are still uncertain where to watch Sunday's biggest of big contests, let us help you choose the perfect spot right here in Greater Wilmington!

The Whip Tavern - FoodThe holiday season is a time to celebrate family and friends. And in my book, there is no better way to do that than with a good meal.

One of my favorites is Sunday Brunch. It's breakfast, it's lunch. It's savory, it's sweet. It's the best of all your favorite foods colliding together in what often looks like an endless sea of choices and an almost certain end to that diet you've been so good at.

So, if you have family and friends in for the holidays or just want to celebrate with those closest to you, the Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley area has some of the best brunch menus around - from casual to elegant, modern to Mexican the food choices will delight all palettes.

And to help you plan your Sunday brunch outing we've gathered a list of over 15 Greater Wilmington and Brandywine Valley restaurants that are ready to server you.

Another Great Delaware Dines Out - there is still time for you

Last night, it was time for Gary and me to enjoy DDO. We decided on Feby's Fishery. OMG! It was yummy. Don't forget - it is $30 per person.

Being the Southern Belle - I had to go for the Fried Green Tomatoes Napoleon. Yum. Their farm grown tomatoes stuffed with Crab Imperial and finished in a basil cream sauce. A true winner!

My next course was the Whole Maine Lobster - yes, that was a 1 ¼ pound steamed lobster served with little red potatoes and steamed veggies. (I believe on their regular menu - this would have been $26.99). However, I did have a little problem. One of the lobster claws shot out of my hand and landed next to a lovely lady celebrating her 3rd wedding anniversary. Again, very sorry for the intrusion.

For dessert, I had their ice cream sandwiches - they are incredible - house made brownies stuffed with Woodside Creamy Strawberry ice cream and don't forget the chocolate sauce.

Lesson for all - it is not too late - Delaware Dines Out continues until Sunday, October 3. We will be going out again - thanks honey!

GWCVB Dines Out!

 Delaware Dines Out!
Don't ever say that we at the GWCVB don't practice what we preach! We've been advocating Delaware Dines Out for weeks and today we decided to head to the newly renovated and reopened Columbus Inn to take part and we were not disappointed! For a flat fee of $18 per person you get a delicious three course meal and after viewing the menu you'll see that it's a steal (I'm channeling Dr. Seuss here apparently). For starters you could piSalmonck fr om a traditional Caesar salad, mussels or beat bisque. As an entrée there was roasted pork panini, grilled chicken sandwich, salmon, grilled cheese with tomato soup and more! I went with my vice, grilled cheese and tomato soup which, to me, are the best pairing since peanut butter and jelly. To finish off this incredible lunch we had our choice between three flavors of sorbet: Concord grape, spiced pear and apple cranberry. Although it was one of the best lunches I've had in a long time, this visit was about more than just the food. It was about experiencing another one of Greater Wilmington's extraordinary historic attractions and before we rolled out to our cars we had time to take "Inn" the atmosphere (you laughed after that groan admit it).

Although recently renovated with modern furnishings and decor the Inn still retains its rustic feel and this combination makes for an interesting ambiance. Columbus Inn is not just a restaurant; it's also a landmark. Dating back to 1798, Columbus Inn at this time was called "Schmalz's Bakery". Mr. Schmalz's got tired of baking and went into liquor sales in 1812 when the name switched to "Schmalz's Tavern" until 1849 when it was renamed "Columbus Inn." It's proximity to the Wawaset Driving Park and its location along the main stagecoach route from Lancaster PA to Wilmington's wColumbus Inn Re-openingaterfront kept the Inn buzzing for more than a century. The Inn closed in 2007, depriving locals of delicious lunches like the one we experienced today. Thankfully, on September 23rd 2010, the Inn celebrated its grand re-opening with our Executive Director Sarah Willoughby and Director of Membership Linda McKay on-hand. The timing couldn't have been better because the Delaware Dines Out would begin just four days later. The statewide restaurant week, now in its second year, has been great for the restaurant industry in a time when people simply can't afford to dine out as often. We spoke with Manager Ashley Pupillo briefly who seemed very pleased with the turn-out. I can't say enough good things about her restaurant and would recommend it to anyone.

If you can't get to the Columbus Inn, be sure to support one of Delaware Dines Out's participating restaurants before the week is up. To preview menus visit the official website and make your reservations on the spot with open table!
