LynLewis@visitwilmingtonde.com; 302-295-2212The opening of the Queen Theatre on Market Street in Downtown Wilmington, Delaware is creating a real stir. The former movie house, originally built in 1915 and closed since 1959, is being transformed into the city's largest live music venue. The 45,000-square-foot building is scheduled to open in Spring, 2011. When it does reopen, the Queen is poised to be the home of World Café Live, a spin-off of the original World Café Live in Philadelphia, and will showcase a broad spectrum of live musical talent seven days a week playing to a 400-seat auditorium. The Queen will also house a restaurant with seating for 160 guests, two separate private event spaces, each of which will accommodate 120 people, and broadcast studios for regional public radio station WXPN. The Queen is expected to be a mecca for music lovers and a magnet for meetings and events.
